Stories are the most powerful way of teaching and transforming. A Legacy Letter is a highly focused letter from the heart that captures a person's stories and transfers his or her wisdom to loved ones. Putting pen to paper and documenting a person's true wealth is a way for people to preserve who they are, and what matters most to them. It is a way to be remembered, understood, and to make a real difference to the younger generation. Learn how this reemerging 3,500 year-old tradition is helping to strengthen family relationships, clarify values, and add a new purpose to people's lives.

Leah Dobkin is a freelance writer who has contributed to Kiplingers, AARP, Milwaukee Magazine and other regional, national and International magazines. She is also a national public speaker, pioneering gerontologist and Founder of Legacy Letters. Her passion is to strengthen the ties between generations, by collecting people's stories and transferring their wisdom.

Ms. Dobkin will read excerpts from her book, Soul of a Port: The History and Evolution of the Port of Milwaukee. This recently published book takes an unconventional look at the Port through the eyes of the people who work there. It is a tapestry of characters, their stories, and observations about the inner workings of the port. The people interviewed for this book come from all walks-of-life - crane operators, captains and crew of a cargo ship, tug boat and ferry, as well as pile drivers, and a ship wreck hunter, to list just a few. Their stories are often funny and sometimes tragic. There will also be time for a book signing.
